The Father of the Hellcats, Tim Kuniskis, recently informed reporters that Dodge “went through a very challenging phase in its product lifecycle. Last year, Dodge was marketing just one SUV, the Durango, and solely one version of the Charger, two-door only, and electric only.”
Now the brand is set to “shift into second gear,” Kuniskis expressed during Stellantis’ turnaround strategy presentation on Thursday in Michigan. A crossover named GLH will act as the entry model for the lineup while a Durango refresh is on the horizon (once again) accompanied by SRT-enhanced versions of the Charger. There’s also a potential range-topping muscle car that seems to diverge from the Charger nameplate, but its shape resembles that of a wide-body Charger with a massive wing.
“We’re going to introduce a genuine entry-level performance vehicle, a gateway into the Brotherhood of Muscle,” Kuniskis stated. “Consider it the next generation of Hornet, but the way we should have implemented it initially.”
It will bear the name GLH, meaning Go Like Hell, and the price tag will be below $40,000. And yes, fingers crossed that this goes better than the vehicle that never garnered the attention it deserved in America.
Kuniskis didn’t delve deeply into these upcoming Dodge models aside from highlighting that the Durango is set for a refresh. He didn’t even mention the SRT-badged Chargers that are part of the manufacturer’s product plans.
Regarding the Charger-styled SRT product (bottom left of the image above), its identity remains unclear. The wing is enormous, the body is broad, and it’s hard to picture it as anything but a Hellcat, yet the Chargers positioned at the bottom right of the product plan image bear the SRT emblem.
This prompts speculation about whether the Banshee will be revived as a flagship of the Dodge lineup to be even quicker on the drag strip than the reborn Hellcats. Or perhaps this will serve as a novel showcase model for the Hurricane I6? The Hemi may still be in the midst of its revival, but it can’t have all the excitement, can it? Time will reveal.
“Look, we’re familiar with this playbook. We crafted this playbook. Dodge will truly be back on track, both literally and metaphorically, by the conclusion of the plan, and Dodge will be restored to its rightful status,” Kuniskis asserted. “And we will reclaim the title of the number one selling muscle car.”
