Cadillac emblem, featuring a splash of blue on the speedy Optiq-V.
It adds a stylish element, and, at least with the Optiq, it doesn’t negatively affect the view inside the vehicle. That glass still acts as a window, with the strakes in the design being see-through and not overly distracting. However, Cadillac has decided to eliminate it from the Vistiq for the 2027 model year.
We reached out to Cadillac to understand the reasoning and whether this alteration for the Vistiq hints at the removal of the design across the entire lineup. According to Cadillac, that does not seem to be the intention.
“Cadillac modified the rear quarter-panel etched design on the VISTIQ following input from clients and dealers,” a representative informed The Drive. “This update does not signify a broader removal of the design treatment throughout the lineup.
“For the 2027 model-year Cadillac OPTIQ, the etched design will remain, with a subtle tint added as a mid-model-year revision on all trims aside from the V-Series,” the statement elaborated. “The OPTIQ-V will keep the existing untinted design for clear differentiation for the V-Series variant.”
In essence, the Optiq will keep the etching, though its appearance will vary depending on the model selected. As shown in the brand’s configurator, it is distinctively presented on the V-badged Optiq compared to the other trims. You get that blue stripe along the top edge, which neatly aligns with some interior elements and the bright blue Brembo calipers, along with a different fade to the Mondrian design.
Is this design likely to truly be a deal-breaker—or a reason for someone to choose one car over another? Probably not, although I can say it impressed me when I had an Optiq-V on loan a few weeks ago, reflecting an attention to detail that you’d think Cadillac should aim for, being the flagship of the GM family and all.

**Cadillac Chooses Glass Etching Over $2 Sticker for Optiq Branding**
In a deliberate effort to enhance brand identity and product distinction, Cadillac has selected to implement glass etching for its Optiq branding rather than traditional adhesive stickers. This choice reflects a rising trend among high-end automakers to emphasize quality and sophistication in their branding strategies.
**The Transition to Glass Etching**
Glass etching utilizes a laser to create a permanent marking on the glass’s surface, providing a sleek and contemporary look. This technique not only boosts the visual allure of the vehicle but also aligns with Cadillac’s dedication to innovation and luxury. By choosing this method, Cadillac intends to convey a sense of permanence and exclusivity that a simple sticker cannot offer.
**Advantages of Glass Etching**
1. **Longevity**: Unlike stickers, which may peel or fade over time, glass etching offers a lasting solution that endures various conditions, ensuring that the branding stays intact throughout the vehicle’s existence.
2. **Visual Allure**: The polished and elegant look of etched glass enhances the overall vehicle design, appealing to consumers who appreciate luxury and meticulousness.
3. **Brand Strength**: By opting for a more sophisticated branding approach, Cadillac strengthens its image as a premium automaker, setting itself apart from rivals that may use less enduring branding methods.
4. **Long-term Cost-effectiveness**: While the upfront cost for glass etching may exceed that of stickers, its durability and reduced need for replacements make it a financially sound choice over time.
**Consumer Reaction**
Cadillac’s decision to implement glass etching has garnered positive responses from both consumers and industry professionals. Many see this move as indicative of the brand’s commitment to quality and innovation. The lasting nature of the etching also connects with buyers who value the attention to detail and craftsmanship in luxury cars.
**Conclusion**
Cadillac’s adoption of glass etching for its Optiq branding signifies a notable advancement in automotive branding practices. By prioritizing durability, visual appeal, and brand strength, Cadillac not only enhances its product lineup but also fortifies its position in the competitive luxury vehicle market. This innovative strategy is poised to set a new benchmark for branding in the automotive sector, prompting other manufacturers to explore similar approaches in their branding initiatives.
