Katherine Legge is preparing for her fifth appearance at the Indy 500 this May, officially named as the 33rd (and probably final) entrant for the race this year. However, unlike previous years, Legge will be racing without a Honda; she will be driving the No. 11 car sponsored by AJ Foyt Racing and Indy NXT team HMD Motorsports.
Legge’s main sponsor is a well-known name, e.l.f. Cosmetics, which has backed her in various racing ventures, including the Indy 500. According to Racer.com, the seasoned driver has also garnered “substantial support” from General Motors. On the technical front, the team and Legge will benefit from technical assistance provided by Team Penske.
“We put in an immense amount of effort to return for this year’s Indianapolis 500, and I truly appreciate every moment of it,” Legge remarked during the announcement. “I’m incredibly thankful to e.l.f. Cosmetics for recognizing that women deserve a presence in every field – including this one. At this point, Legge is the sole female driver confirmed for the 110th edition of the 500, and with the race approaching in less than a month, this is unlikely to change. In fact, it’s quite improbable that any additional entries will be added, suggesting that there will be no bumps during this year’s qualifying rounds.
It’s fantastic to see Legge back in IndyCar and especially at the 500. Here’s hoping she has better luck this year compared to her last outing in 2024, when a mechanical malfunction curtailed her race after just 22 laps.
