The box is making a comeback. Or, it will be, but in three years.
Honda enthusiasts and Element fans can cheer as, on Wednesday, Automotive News revealed that the Honda Element will be resurrected as a hybrid crossover set to debut in 2029.
The new Element is expected to be a key model for the Japanese carmaker, aiming for close to 100,000 sales in its first full year of production. This is just 35,000 units less than the Ford Bronco Sport’s sales anticipated in 2025.
Honda dealerships are about to swell with small crossover SUVs, with the Element fitting in between the HR-V and CR-V models.
AN reported that production for the new Element is slated to start in Central Ohio in the second quarter of 2029. Honda had aspirations to produce its new Zero Series family of electric vehicles there but decided to halt that initiative at the last minute.
With the shift away from electric vehicles, Honda is declaring its focus on hybrids as the center of its operations. The automaker is preparing to introduce a new ground-up V6-based hybrid powertrain for all of its mid-size and larger models.
The Element’s return will occur 18 years after the iconic nameplate was retired. The original model ran for just one generation over nearly ten years, receiving only one mild refresh.
