The Blue Oval has equipped its track-focused ‘Stang with an incredible 5.2-liter V8 generating 815 horsepower and 664 lb-ft of torque at the crankshaft. But what portion of that actually reaches the tire?

Late Model Restoration discovered in its latest YouTube post. The Texas workshop specializes in Mustangs of all variations, so if anyone is suited to put a GTD on the dyno and let it roar, it’s LMR. The team got its hands on a white-and-carbon model with just over 1,100 miles, and after a brief shakedown, they were ready for testing.

LMR’s initial run yielded impressive results: 740 wheel horsepower at 7,100 rpm and 605 lb-ft of torque at 4,600 rpm. Everything appeared calm during the run, as they maintained fifth gear the whole time. They followed the same strategy for the second run, achieving better results, with 753 whp at 7,400 rpm and 609 lb-ft at 4,500 rpm.

Overall, this reflects around 8% drivetrain loss, which is quite acceptable. It is usually safe to estimate around 15%. Given that the Mustang GTD’s output must travel a considerable distance from the front engine to the rear eight-speed transaxle, most of it efficiently reaches the ground via the Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 R tires sized 345/30R20.

So far, they consistently show the car achieving 740 whp on the lower end, with LMR’s result of 753 whp being the highest observed to date.
