2026 Ford Mustang Dark Horse SC Offers GTD-Level Performance for a Third of the Price

Ford has officially announced the horsepower and torque specifications for the 2026 Mustang Dark Horse SC. This new supercharged GT500 successor will provide 35 additional horsepower and torque compared to the now-retired GT500, coming in at 795 hp and 660 pound-feet from its supercharged 5.2-liter V8 engine. That’s one incredibly rapid Mustang, and this time it isn’t a Shelby.

While this isn’t a massive increase in power relative to the GT500, with almost 800 horses, the Dark Horse SC is already nearing the thresholds of what can be controlled in a rear-wheel-drive street vehicle. Moreover, with the 815-horsepower GTD positioned at the top and the standard Dark Horse at the opposite end, the SC has very little maneuvering space. This is similarly true for its pricing, as we’ve previously discovered, with the $105,485 Dark Horse SC priced significantly higher than the standard Dark Horse but about a third of the cost of a GTD.

This trend continues throughout the lineup. Although the Dark Horse and SC may not compete on the same level as the GTD, Ford states that they are still designed to be track-oriented Mustangs. The SC’s Track Pack includes Brembo carbon-ceramic brakes and 20-inch carbon fiber wheels.

That represents a significant reduction in unsprung weight at the corners. It also removes the rear seats and replaces the standard summer tires with Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 Rs, resulting in not just a 150-pound weight reduction, but also enhanced grip. This is in addition to what is already included with the standard Dark Horse setup.

“Aerodynamics and cooling have been precisely optimized for the Dark Horse SC’s supercharged V8’s extreme capabilities,” Ford stated when sharing the power figures. “The Dark Horse SC features a new aluminum hood equipped with a prominent carbon fiber vent that produces 2.5 times the downforce of the standard Dark Horse model when the rain tray is removed.”

For its part, Shelby remains engaged with the Mustang legacy. Although the licensing agreement between Carroll’s estate and Ford has concluded, Shelby American—an entirely distinct entity—continues to manufacture seriously powerful Fords. They are also quite costly.

The 2026 Mustang Dark Horse SC is available for pre-order now; deliveries are expected to start in the summer.
