This Bang Bang Sauce Stays on My Mind!

It’s absolutely scrumptious and totally memorable.

  • Mayonnaise
  • Sweet chili sauce
  • Minced garlic
  • Soy sauce

That’s the essence of Bang Bang Sauce. Made famous by the renowned Bonefish Grill. It’s rich, sweet, savory, and has a bite from garlic and soy, leaving you craving more!

Right now, I’m mainly using this sauce with salmon, as I am always seeking new ways to enjoy salmon. However, the bang bang sauce can work wonders with: chicken, shrimp, tofu, roasted potatoes, roasted mushrooms, and roasted cauliflower.

This week, in a particularly hectic moment, I slathered the bang bang sauce on a frozen breaded chicken breast after baking, allowing it to melt in. I tossed it on a salad, and it turned out to be incredibly simple yet delicious!

<pWhen it comes to vegetables to accompany this salmon, I usually choose one of the following:

  • steamed broccoli
  • some avocado cucumber salsa, which you can find in the notes!

The sauce isn’t spicy at all – just skip the chili crisp for those who are sensitive. My 3-year-old sometimes devours the salmon, and the rest of us polish our plates every time!

This dish ranks right alongside other salmon favorites in my kitchen: air fryer salmon, and BBQ salmon with mango salsa!

Honestly, I should have shared this recipe on POY ages ago. It’s so straightforward and something I eagerly anticipate eating.

How To Prepare This Recipe

Prepare the Bang Bang Sauce.

Combine mayonnaise, sweet chili sauce, minced garlic, and soy sauce.

Coat the Salmon with Sauce.

Season the salmon; then top with a spoonful of the sauce.

Bake the Salmon.

Set the oven to 400 degrees for 10 minutes, and I prefer to give it a quick broil for a caramelized finish.

Prepare Avocado Salsa, If Desired.

And I certainly do.

Add more sauce on top, a sprinkle of chili crisp for some heat, and enjoy!

  1. Prep the Salmon: Cut the salmon into individual portions if you want. Pat the salmon dry. Coat the salmon with the spice mix. Place salmon on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
  2. Make the Bang Bang Sauce: Mix mayo, sweet chili sauce, garlic, and soy sauce in a small bowl. Set half of it aside for after baking.
  3. Bake the Salmon: Spread a small spoonful of sauce over the seasoned salmon pieces. Bake for 10 minutes towards the top of the oven. Then turn the broiler on for another 2-3 minutes, until your salmon looks golden brown and a bit caramelized on top.  
  4. Serve: Serve the salmon over rice, with a vegetable of choice, and the reserved bang bang sauce + chili crisp drizzled over top! So easy and so good.

Notes

Seasoning Mix: If you don’t have a good seasoning mix, or if you’re not sure if the one you have will be good here, just sprinkle your salmon with about a teaspoon of coarse kosher salt, and then some onion powder, garlic powder, and paprika. Just get it nice and seasoned so it looks like it does in the video. This helps give flavor to the salmon and it also helps the sauce stick to the salmon.

Avocado Cucumber Salsa: I love this salmon with a little sweet and crunchy avocado salsa! Mix 1 avocado (diced), half of a cucumber (diced), a handful of chopped cilantro, a bit of lime juice, a pinch of salt, and a tablespoon of honey in a small bowl. Done! Perfect pretty little green veg for the bowl.
