Two vehicle owners are suing WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca after a day at the track turned disastrous when a worker operating a telehandler crashed into their Nissan Skyline GT-Rs while they were halted on the track’s front straight during a red flag earlier this month.
The lawsuit, submitted on Tuesday in Monterey County Superior Court by attorneys representing the GTR owners Artin Nazaryan and Akihiro Fuchigami, claims the two individuals were complying with Laguna Seca’s directions by safely pulling over to the side of the track after their session was halted due to another incident. While they remained stationary, a telehandler—a large tractor with an extendable boom—entered the track from behind, carrying a stack of tires, crashed directly into both vehicles with the drivers still inside.
Clips of the accident and images of the damage quickly went viral on Instagram after Nazaryan shared them following the incident.

A representative for media and public relations at Laguna Seca responded to our request for comments with the following statement: “An incident involving a track support vehicle and a racecar took place at the facility during a privately conducted on-track event earlier this month. The track is diligently and promptly addressing the situation.”
The crash severely damaged the rear of Nazaryan’s red R34 GT-R, crumpling the trunk and rear bumper, shattering the rear window, and knocking over its wing. Fuchigami’s purple R32 GT-R also suffered significant harm to its right rear quarter panel.
The lawsuit states that “the telehandler operator advanced without keeping a secure and clear line of sight ahead and without taking sufficient precautions to ensure the route was unobstructed,” and that he “failed to notice both Plaintiffs’ stationary vehicles in front of him in adequate time to evade a collision.” It argues that the machine was driven in a “grossly negligent manner,” and that proper measures of “effective communications,” as well as spotters and guidance, were not implemented.
Finally, it asserts both Nazaryan and Fuchigami experienced injuries “including, but not limited to, physical injuries, pain and suffering, emotional distress, mental anguish, inconvenience, and other non-economic damages to be proven at trial.”
