Timothy Fabrizio, an enthusiast for cars with ties to pop culture, aimed to secure his father’s dream vehicle: a black-on-tan ’90s Rolls-Royce Corniche convertible. These are quite scarce. So rare, in fact, that Fabrizio discovered he purchased the very one once owned by renowned West Coast rapper Tupac Shakur. He delved into the automobiles associated with Death Row Records and uncovered some fascinating stories and visuals.
Fabrizio is also the individual who took ownership of Nicki Minaj’s Bentley after its signature pink wrap was stripped. It appears somewhat unusual that the same person would coincidentally acquire multiple vehicles previously owned by famous rappers, but given that only 25 black Corniches with tan interiors were allegedly made, he likely had a fair shot at owning the legendary car from hip-hop history if he found one!
He displayed the vehicle on his Instagram account last year and recently participated in an interview with VINwiki, discussing how he discovered the car’s background.
As Fabrizio recounts his journey, he initiated a registry for Corniches while seeking the exact color scheme his father desired.
This led him to uncover that several of those convertible Rolls-Royces were procured by Death Row Records—Suge Knight received a red one, Tupac got the black-on-tan, and Snoop Dogg took home a white Bentley Azure—which were subsequently driven from LA to Vegas by the rap legends.
Additionally, Shakur was famously captured behind the wheel of a black-on-tan Corniche in that famed 1996 photograph by Fabrice Henssens on Melrose Ave in LA.
Fabrizio was keen on acquiring the car, but after bringing it home, he dove deeper into research, examining sales and leasing documents, and even reaching out to former Death Row staff to trace this particular Corniche through its past ownership.
By connecting with Reggie Wright Jr., the former head of security at Death Row Records, and the original car dealer, identified as Stan, Fabrizio confirmed that the vehicle was part of a certain multi-car delivery at Nessen Motorcars in March 1996. That was the Death Row convoy we’ve just mentioned.
Unlike the bullet-riddled BMW in which Shakur met his end, which tends to appear at auction quite frequently, the Rolls-Royce didn’t enjoy a prestigious reputation—it was relegated to what Fabrizio describes as “a typical used car dealership” in 2018, before becoming non-operational under the ownership of the individual from whom Fabrizio purchased it.
Thus, it appears Tupac never directly owned the Rolls-Royce—it was leased by the record label. This might explain its fade into obscurity over time. Nonetheless, the entire narrative is a fascinating aspect of rap and automotive culture history.
