The forthcoming electric Lexus LFA represents more than just the return of a classic; it aims to transform an entire category.
On December 4, at the Woven City facility near Fuji, Japan, GR GT Project Manager Takashi Doi informed reporters that the goal of the electric Lexus LFA is “to transform the sound of an electric sports car.”
This directive originated from the company chairman, Akio Toyoda.

Doi mentioned that the team recognizes the variety of electric sports cars currently available and is still assessing what audio signature the electric LFA will have. The decision remains open. They haven’t yet concluded whether the electric LFA will replicate traditional engine sounds or create something entirely new from scratch.
“It’s something we are genuinely committed to,” Doi remarked concerning perfecting the sound.
According to Doi, sports cars should evoke excitement and emotion, paired with delivering top-notch performance. The electric LFA must encompass all these attributes.

Sound may not be the only objective of the electric LFA. There is speculation that this supercar might also debut Toyota’s first production solid-state battery packs. Unlike the standard electric skateboard chassis, the LFA shares its aluminum space frame with the GR GT and GR GT3, creating room under the hood, in the transmission tunnel, and behind the rear seats where the gas vehicle’s transaxle is located, for a T-shaped battery configuration.
We are likely about two to three years away from the electric LFA coming to fruition, but it appears poised to reshape what a future sports car can achieve on multiple levels.
Toyota sponsored travel, lodging, and seafood that I certainly refrained from eating to facilitate this firsthand account.
