You and I have numerous similarities, whether we recognize them or not. One is that it’s probable we will never drive a Koenigsegg. Naturally, my point is rendered moot if you’re a wealthy business owner with one, in which case… I’m not addressing you. But for me and nearly everyone else, we can only marvel at what the Swedish brand creates from a distance. That doesn’t mean we can’t value Koenigsegg’s craftsmanship, and to demonstrate this, I will dedicate the remainder of this blog to showcasing the new CCGT1 hypercar and all the ways you can maneuver it.
This vehicle pays tribute to a unique Le Mans project from 2007. See, Christian von Koenigsegg designed a car (singular) for the 24-hour endurance event nearly two decades ago, but some crucial regulations changed just after its completion. CVK decided not to let it rest forever, as the vehicle you’re viewing honors the original CCGT, which has been restored and is on its way for competitive participation in the GT1 historic category.
Today’s star, the new CCGT1, enhances the formula with a fresh transmission technology known as Koenigsegg Sequential Shift. It features a clutch pedal that drivers use explicitly during take-off, while shifts are clutchless and executed without lifting thanks to ignition cuts. As you would anticipate from a race car, the shifter is tall, positioned just inches from the steering wheel.
I can only envision how exhilarating it would be to blaze through the nine (!!!) gears as the twin-turbo V8 growls and hums behind your head. That engine produces 1,280 horsepower on pump gas or 1,600 hp on E85, and it can operate on any blend of the fuels as well.
Now, suppose you prefer a conventional H-pattern gearbox. You’re in luck, as Koenigsegg also provides the CCGT1 with its proprietary six-speed manual. If you follow Koenigsegg updates, you’ll recall that it already offers a manual hypercar: The CC850, a homage to the company’s first homologated production vehicle. This transmission is the same one found in that model.
What’s particularly intriguing is how Koenigsegg’s Light Speed Transmission facilitates all this. Both the six-speed manual and nine-speed sequential are LSTs at their core. This piece of machinery lacks a flywheel and utilizes seven wet multi-disc clutches, allowing it to skip gears as necessary. Thus, the manual and sequential can effectively operate as automatic transmissions when in their respective modes. Got it?
“The CCGT1 possesses two distinct identities,” Christian von Koenigsegg stated in a release. “On the road, it’s an exquisite tourer that is both comfortable and exceptionally capable. Yet its roots are founded in endurance racing, which is where the CCGT1 unveils its complete character as a true tribute to the original CCGT—with the roof panel on or off!
“The CCGT1 provides something enticing to the weekend racer who also desires a daily driver with authentic extended capability on track. That’s what our optional track package accomplishes. Prepare it for race day through your local Koenigsegg dealer, and the character transforms entirely—from an outstanding weekend tourer with respectable track credentials into a real circuit weapon.”
I haven’t even touched upon the car’s active aerodynamics, which feature a wing that shifts between low-drag and air brake modes with 30 degrees of adjustment; the “Ghost Fibre” body, which sparkles in the sunlight with what Koenigsegg describes as “a crystal-white aramix/carbon matrix”; or the optional Track Package, which adds a carbon fiber roll cage, HANS-compatible seating, fire suppression systems, air jacks, modified suspension and braking setups, even more aggressive aero, and a second set of wheels with racing tires.
Once again, you and I are probably never going to drive the Koenigsegg CCGT1—especially if you aren’t among the 70 customers who have already acquired one. (I know I’m not.) However, I am thankful that high-end, boutique hypercar manufacturers still prioritize driving feel.
At least a person can dream.

**Koenigsegg CCGT1 Hypercar Unveils Revolutionary Manual Transmission System**
The automotive landscape is accustomed to innovation, and Koenigsegg, the Swedish manufacturer renowned for its high-performance hypercars, continues to advance engineering with the launch of the CCGT1. This hypercar not only presents groundbreaking design and engineering but also incorporates a pioneering manual transmission system that distinguishes it from its rivals.
**A New Chapter in Hypercars**
The Koenigsegg CCGT1 exemplifies the brand’s dedication to performance and driving interaction. While many contemporary hypercars have leaned towards automatic and dual-clutch transmissions for their speed and efficiency, the CCGT1 reintroduces the manual transmission, granting enthusiasts a more engaging and immersive driving experience. This choice reflects a rising longing among drivers for a connection to the vehicle that is frequently diminished in automated systems.
**Advanced Manual Transmission Design**
The manual transmission system in the CCGT1 is not merely a step back; it is a sophisticated piece of engineering that integrates modern technology to boost performance. The transmission showcases a lightweight design, utilizing high-strength materials that minimize weight without sacrificing durability. This is vital for a hypercar, where every ounce contributes to performance and handling.
Moreover, the CCGT1’s manual gearbox is outfitted with an advanced rev-matching system. This technology enables smooth downshifts, guaranteeing that the engine speed aligns perfectly with the wheel speed during gear transitions. This feature not only enhances the driving experience but also heightens vehicle stability during intense driving maneuvers.
**Performance Specifications**
Under the hood, the CCGT1 is equipped with a potent engine that complements its innovative transmission. The hypercar is driven by a twin-turbocharged V8 engine, delivering impressive horsepower and torque figures that catapult it from 0 to 60 mph in mere seconds. The manual transmission permits drivers to fully harness the engine’s abilities, providing a direct and engaging link to the powertrain.
The fusion of the manual transmission and the robust engine provides a driving experience that is both thrilling and gratifying. Enthusiasts can relish the pleasure of precise gear changes, allowing them to fully connect with the vehicle and the road.
**Driving Experience and Engagement**
The incorporation of the manual transmission in the CCGT1 is a homage to driving purists who cherish the art of gear shifting. The tactile feedback from the gear lever, the engine’s roar, and the sensation of acceleration create a sensory experience that automated systems frequently fail to emulate. Koenigsegg’s choice to integrate a manual transmission signifies a philosophy that emphasizes driver engagement and enjoyment.
**Conclusion**
The Koenigsegg CCGT1 stands as an extraordinary illustration of how innovation can coexist with tradition in the hypercar realm. By reintroducing a manual transmission system, Koenigsegg not only addresses the desires of driving enthusiasts but also establishes a new precedent for engagement in high-performance vehicles. As the automotive sector continues to progress, the CCGT1 serves as a reminder that the joy of driving remains paramount, and that at times, traditional methods can lead to new peaks of performance and exhilaration.
