Similar to the Hyundai Palisade, certain 2027 Kia Telluride Hybrids have an issue with power seats that could pose a risk of injury.
The concern is considerably more restricted in comparison to the Palisade, regarding which Hyundai has recalled over 69,000 units and halted sales of top-tier Limited and Calligraphy trims. In contrast, Kia is recalling 568 Telluride Hybrids while suspending sales of SX Prestige and X-Line SX Prestige models equipped with the optional Executive Package. These are the sole models that provide power second-row and “one-touch” tilt-and-slide seating, which, according to Kia, “may fail to recognize obstructions and might continue to move if these features are activated while someone is seated or is getting in/out of the back of the vehicle.”
The issue with the Telluride Hybrid closely mirrors that of the Palisade, which contributed to an incident that resulted in a death of a two-year-old in Ohio on March 7. Hyundai received reports of four injuries associated with the second-row seats and a total of 17 complaints regarding the Palisade’s seat functions from mid-August to March 9; on the other hand, Kia has not received any such reports. The 2026 Palisade was introduced in dealerships last summer while the 2027 Telluride is just now being delivered to dealers.
A fix for the power-folding seats in the premium Telluride Hybrid is currently being developed, but the problem has not yet been resolved. Consequently, Kia is unable to offer the most luxurious versions of its best-selling model, which it has just increased production of for the fifth time. This is unfortunate news as the timeline for a recall resolution is still uncertain.
In the meantime, Kia advises customers to ensure that children are not in the back seat area during power-folding operations.
