AEV Unveils New Ford FXL Package for Super Duty Trucks Featuring 40-Inch Tires

A role like this one guarantees an abundance of unforgettable experiences. A few years prior, during an Easter Jeep Safari event in Moab, I managed to secure some time behind the wheel of Jeep’s fully electric Magneto prototype with then-leader Jim Morrison alongside me. The Magneto was fundamentally a Wrangler chassis resting atop a battery system, dual motors, a Hellcat’s six-speed manual transmission, and 40″ tires. Upon reaching a clearing, I turned to him and inquired about our next move. In response, he simply grinned and stated, “A Wrangler on 40s can traverse anywhere.”

What does Jeep have to do with a heavy-duty truck build? Well, as you might have guessed, they both utilize 40-inch tires. That’s where the “XL” in AEV’s new Super Duty FXL package comes into play. Not following? As any Steelers supporter will inform you, those are the Roman numerals representing 40. And of course, “FX” also pays tribute to Ford’s long-standing “FX4” off-road packages. It’s a fitting reference, as AEV’s main objective was to deliver the go-anywhere capability of 40s while preserving its factory ride comfort.

The largest standard tire available on an F-250 is the 35″ all-terrain tire offered with the Tremor. To fit another five inches, AEV had to address modifications both above and below. The upper changes were made possible by HighMark, which provided the FXL’s massive fender flares, while the lower adjustments were achieved the traditional way—with a 4-inch lift. The final setup affords 12 inches of vertical space beneath the lowest point of the rear axle, with a specifically tuned Bilstein suspension regulating body movements.

You likely anticipate more from an AEV package than four gigantic sidewall expanses, and indeed, those BFG HD-Terrains are just the start. The HighMark Fender flares not only accommodate the 40s but also broaden the Super Duty’s stance. They’re paired with AEV steel bumpers at the front and rear. The front bumper features a standard winch mount and integrates all of the Super Duty’s factory ADAS systems (like radar sensors, etc.). It can be upgraded with a brush guard (available later).

While the company began (and continues to closely associate itself) with Jeeps, AEV’s proverbial shop doors are wide open, provided automakers seek overlanding-inspired enhancements. We have already seen their formal collaborations extend beyond the seven-slot grille, and while your author may favor that Level II Wrangler (even with its ridiculously high price tag), it’s far from the only showroom model displaying the up-fitter’s branding.

It’s an opportune time to be in the aftermarket industry. The EPA is practically powerless and NHTSA might be next, lowering the barrier for aftermarket modifications like it hasn’t been in decades. However, for AEV, it’s business as usual—and that business is thriving. As a tier-one supplier, AEV collaborates closely with automakers to provide the components that keep large sections of America’s new-vehicle fleet operational daily. This scale not only grants AEV the freedom to experiment with limited-run projects but also gives them direct access to the decision-makers capable of approving their partnerships.

To put it differently? You never know what they could come up with next.
