This year, Acura has rolled out unique vehicles to celebrate its 40th anniversary, but the festivities are reaching their height at the 2026 Monterey Car Week, where the Acura Nexera Vision concept was revealed.
When I first mentioned to an Acura representative that I perceived the Nexera Vision as a precursor to the NSX, I received the response: “Well, does it resemble an NSX?” Fair enough. The official narrative is that this striking concept serves as a design exploration anticipating the brand’s future aesthetic for both exteriors and interiors, beginning with the upcoming 4th-generation RDX crossover, slated for release in the “coming years.”
This two-door concept exudes Lamborghini-inspired elements—just with a softer edge and less overt machismo—crafted at the Acura Design California studio in Los Angeles under the supervision of Yasutake Tsuchida, the newly appointed Acura Creative Director and Vice President of Auto Design.
“Utilizing the 40th anniversary of Acura as a springboard for our future, the Acura Nexera Vision acts as the design language guiding forthcoming Acura models,” stated Yasutake Tsuchida, Acura Creative Director and Vice President of Auto Design. “With this new design trajectory, our objective is to characterize Acura performance through precise proportions, sculpted designs, and the seamless inclusion of advanced technology, crafting an expression that is both modern and true to the brand.”
Exterior
Butterfly doors are not a common sight on a Honda or Acura, as it has never occurred before. Hence, the Nexera Vision undoubtedly stands out. Whether this feature will transition to a production model remains uncertain, but possibilities exist. Additionally, the vehicle features active aerodynamics, details of which Acura did not elaborate on, yet they discussed a concept known as “phantom lighting.”
This method illuminates the vehicle’s distinctive surface and accentuates its sharp design, harmonizing with the new A-shaped, ultra-slim headlights and taillights, which Acura confirmed will feature in future production models, starting with the RDX. They remind me of the rear lights on the Alpine WEC Hypercar.
The concept is equipped with 22-inch center-lock wheels, a first for the Acura brand, paired with high-performance carbon-ceramic Brembo brakes.
Interior
The cockpit, focused on the driver, has a fixed driver’s seat that lowers the seating height, while the pedal box and steering wheel assemblies slide forward and backward to accommodate the driver’s preferences and size, akin to features in most contemporary supercars.
The interior, featuring a black-and-white color scheme, showcases sustainable materials alongside forged carbon, complemented by gloss-black finishes and high-contrast pink highlights. This encompasses recycled aluminum, Alcantara made with certified post-consumer recycled polyester, and CircuLeather, a real leather alternative developed to foster a more circular material lifecycle.
“Sustainability is becoming a crucial aspect of how premium quality and performance are defined, and the Acura brand is adopting innovative material technologies that provide fresh opportunities for the customer experience while contributing to broader environmental goals,” Tsuchida noted. “These improvements help decrease the carbon footprint associated with our products and open new avenues to challenge conventional notions of quality, fostering a renewed view of what luxury can entail.”
