My enumeration of how EVs have negatively impacted various aspects extends beyond a single point, but that’s a tale for another occasion. What Porsche has achieved with the 992.2 Turbo S, whether in Coupe or Cabriolet form—is nothing short of extraordinary. Stuttgart has managed to combine electric-car speed and everyday usability while keeping supercar-level performance, classic Carrera driving dynamics, and all the delightful sounds of a 3.6-liter flat-six engine transforming air and fuel into horsepower and noise. Note the emphasis on noise.
The Essentials
For 2026, the 911 Turbo S is receiving the T-Hybrid treatment, incorporating an electric motor within the eight-speed dual-clutch transaxle. A compact lithium-ion battery is located at the front, and together with the electric motor, it generates 80 horsepower and 138 lb-ft of torque. The 3.6-liter flat-six engine employs two electrically-assisted turbochargers to yield 631 hp and 560 lb-ft of torque. All together, the Turbo S produces 701 hp and 590 lb-ft, achieving a 0-60 mph time of 2.4 seconds and a top speed of 200 mph. Even more astonishing is its capacity to reach 30 mph in under a second (on warm tires and clean pavement) and 124 mph in just six seconds.
In terms of appearance, the Turbo S epitomizes 911 design with its broad rear and tapering front. The fabric roof creates a sleek outline closely mirroring the coupe’s elegant contours, but I genuinely prefer the car with the top down. If I owned one, I would seldom have the roof raised; if not, what’s the purpose of having a cabrio? Overall, the fresh design appears more streamlined, smoother, and muscular compared to its predecessor. Despite having experienced the GTS last year, I still haven’t warmed up to the active vertical slats in the front air dam. Aesthetically, they don’t quite align with the car’s character. Additionally, there’s an active diffuser and rear spoiler for aerodynamic assistance as needed.
Each corner is equipped with new, 10-mm wider Pirelli P Zero tires—255/35ZR-20 at the front and 325/30ZR-21 at the rear—mounted on, as you might guess, 20-inch wheels up front and 21-inch at the back. They also host new, larger, sturdier brakes housed within, featuring 16.5-inch vented, cross-drilled carbon-ceramic discs at the front and 16.1-inch at the rear. Indeed, carbon ceramics come standard in the Turbo S, given that you’re already investing around $300,000, so why not?
Overall, the Turbo S Cabriolet weighs in at 4,000 pounds.
Experiencing the 2026 Porsche Turbo S Cabriolet
“I felt my brain shift,” is precisely what my friend Rob remarked after I showed him the Turbo S’ launch control feature. In the course of my eight days with the vehicle, I executed the procedure about four times. Two of the individuals had never experienced it before, while the other two, my son and Rob, were seasoned veterans. My son due to my career, and Rob as he has owned everything from a Z06 to a McLaren—though he now drives an absurdly large Silverado 2500HD ZR1. “I truly felt my brain shift to the back of my head,” he remarked.
Returning to my opening statement, the Turbo S is among the few gasoline-powered vehicles that has jolted me back into the reality that EVs compelled me to leave behind a few years prior. It’s aggressive, it’s intense, and above all, it’s incredibly enjoyable. German cars, particularly Porsches, are frequently perceived as beautiful, precise driving machines, but they are seldom described as wild or exceptionally entertaining. Well, this car exudes that silliness in fun.
The display of the launch control is precisely that: pure spectacle. You sense the vehicle squat, you witness the rear wing rise, and you hear the turbos pre-spooling, which resembles the car inhaling deeply, with revs bouncing off the preset limiter. The process goes like this: press the brake with your left foot, turn the driving mode dial to Sport Plus, push the gas pedal fully down with your right foot, and boom!
Once the launching antics conclude and it’s time to drive the Porsche as a true Porsche, the chassis and suspension are equally remarkable, if not more so, because, ultimately, it’s extremely challenging to ignore the presence of those 4,000 pounds. Compared to the prior version, this one is approximately 267 pounds heavier in coupe form, plus an additional 180-pound penalty for the convertible. Nevertheless, Porsche’s Dynamic Chassis Control strives to mask that heft and convince you that you’re maneuvering a lightweight, agile sports car. And for the majority, it succeeds. In fact, this vehicle weighs nearly as much as the 849 Testarossa Spider I drove earlier this summer, and while the Ferrari boasts over 300 hp beyond what the Turbo S offers, it’s the Porsche that feels significantly nimbler in turns.
From the 400-volt-powered anti-roll bars that help maintain a flat stance through the tightest turns to the powered front axle that provides immense grip and stability, the outcome is an immensely satisfying car for any driving scenario. For what it’s worth, I derived as much pleasure from enjoying its luxurious cabin while navigating urban areas as I did from speeding along winding rural roads. Regrettably, given the absence of an unrestricted highway system like the Autobahn in the United States, I wasn’t able to test the car’s outrageous top-end speed and stability.
Final Thoughts
It requires considerable fortitude as an automotive journalist to state that the 2026 Porsche 911 Turbo S Cabriolet is the ultimate car—just kidding, not really. However, after maneuvering it through varied weather and driving situations during my test (and even taking my daughter to her initial day of high school in it), it inevitably impressed, dazzled, and astounded me. Unless the scenario required comfortably transporting a third occupant, of course. Keyword: comfortably, because I did transport a third person, but they were not at ease.
As is the case with most Porsches of a certain caliber, or nearly every 911 beyond the S model, it’s genuinely tough to rationalize spending significantly more to attain a significant boost in power and features when the essential experience can be enjoyed for under $150,000—or about half the cost of the vehicle I drove, which begins at $286,650. With its stunning Oak Green Metallic Neo ($3,160), magnificent Truffle Brown interior ($2,000), and a lengthy list of optional goodies, the overall cost to bring this magnificent machine home climbed to $304,330.
That’s quite a bit of money, but then again, that’s an incredible car. And don’t forget, it did make me forget about EVs—even when accelerating.
