The Fresh Dodge Charger: YouTube’s Leading Vehicle for Creation and Annihilation

The Fresh Dodge Charger: YouTube's Leading Vehicle for Creation and Annihilation

Very few individuals are purchasing the new Dodge Charger, and it’s concerning. Back in March, we had a conversation with Dodge CEO Matt McAlear regarding the situation; when inquired if it was time to worry, he stated it was “too soon” to make that judgment. Several months have passed since that discussion, and I’m not observing many more Chargers—except when I refresh my YouTube recommendations. Influencers and vloggers are all over them, which could signify one of two scenarios.

Either the Charger is poised to become a remarkable tuning vehicle, or it’s a definite failure. I believe it ultimately relies on one’s perspective.

I want to clarify why numerous YouTubers are showcasing Dodge Charger builds on their platforms. Dodge has provided several of these vehicles to content creators—or, at the very least, loaned them for the purpose of creating videos. They are not entirely factory production models but are engineering prototypes that cannot be registered for public roads. Instead of scrapping them, it appears Dodge aimed for an alternative route to generate excitement. And look! It’s working!

Rob Dahm is one of the YouTubers currently pushing the new Charger to its limits. In his video launching the project, Dahm mentioned it’s his to experiment with for two years, and he plans to create a powerhouse out of the SixPack’s turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six.

Currently, Dahm is modifying the car to compete against others at Roadkill Nights. Being a Dodge event, it’s logical for the brand to support the presence of fascinating vehicles at the gathering. He had no intention of leaving it factory stock, and on Thursday, he released a video showcasing the Charger equipped with a new 3D-printed exhaust manifold that generates boost for the larger single turbo almost instantly.

Overall, Dahm appears confident in the Hurricane engine’s ability to produce substantial power. And to be fair, so am I. The only vehicle I’ve operated with one is the Ram 1500, and even in such a hefty truck, it’s quite energetic.

However, the Charger isn’t drastically lighter as a result. YouTuber Evan Shanks is addressing that with his vehicle, which Dodge provided him. He’s entering the same competitive category as Dahm, and although he has also completed a significant single-turbo upgrade, Shanks is focused on reducing the weight of the 4,700-pound vehicle.

Ultimately, Shanks managed to lighten the car by 816 pounds, bringing it under the two-ton threshold. Since it’s not designed for street use, he eliminated the additional seats, airbags, sound system, and sound-deadening materials. This approach helps tackle what many regard as the new Charger’s largest issue—aside from the absence of the V8 under the hood.

Dahm and Shanks are merely a couple of YouTubers modifying the new Chargers. They are certainly not the only ones doing so.

We Bought The Worst Car in America!

Testing The Worst Car In America

Cleetus McFarland is creating content with a Charger Daytona Scat Pack EV, although Dodge did not provide it to him. Rather, he struck a deal with a dealer who sold it to him for $39,485—half of its $78,970 manufacturer-suggested retail price. I was aware that these vehicles were significantly marked down, but who would have anticipated that such a discount was available on a fresh car?

McFarland hasn’t been particularly kind to the platform. His latest video is called, “Testing The Worst Car In America.” I suppose you can afford to say that when there’s no obligation to satisfy the automaker that created it. Anyway, he’s nearly taken on a full Whistlin’ Diesel approach with this vehicle, subjecting it to a tug of war and scorching the tires off it.

These three YouTubers collectively have over six million followers. While there’s some overlap among their audiences, their reach is still substantial. Dodge is attempting to manage the narrative surrounding the Charger by giving it to individuals like Dahm and Shanks, whom they know will create impressive content. Conversely, McFarland—whose channel accounts for almost five million of those followers—is criticizing the vehicle.

It’s quite a contrasting situation. Regardless, Dodge has a lot riding on this, as the perspectives of millions of enthusiasts regarding the Charger will be influenced one way or another by the conclusion of this. The Detroit muscle car manufacturer is relying on the gifted cars to win over the public.
