New Grand Tour featuring Throttle House and Well-Known TikTok Trainspotter Debuts on September 4

A new chapter of The Grand Tour is about to begin. We now know the upcoming hosts—Throttle House members Thomas Holland and James Engelsman along with the famed TikTok train enthusiast Francis Bourgeois—and the premiere date for their inaugural season is confirmed. Six episodes will debut on Prime Video on September 4. Yes, that’s a Friday.

Promoted under the tagline, “New Show. Same Knobs,” the revamped Grand Tour vows to deliver “grand escapades, questionable automotive selections, and lots of laughter,” while featuring the following scenarios, quoted directly from Amazon’s press announcement:

  • Navigating the Angolan desert in track vehicles
  • Diving into Malaysia’s lively automotive scene
  • Traveling to California to test top-tier performance machines
  • Challenging military pilots and even a whole nation’s legal framework

That seems to tick all the boxes for classic TG/GT: grand expeditions in cars utterly unsuitable for the journey, out-of-place cultural adventures featuring automobiles, and feigning the stretching of international regulations. The announcement was complemented by some notable remarks from the stars, and I must commend Bourgeois for vividly illustrating this experience:

“Since wrapping up filming for the series, I’ve been reliving every second in my mind. It has brought me laughter, made my pulse race, and my stomach churn…recalling the tent I shared with Thomas and James filled with odorous farts while Angolan jackals prowled outside. It feels surreal, but knowing we will soon share our escapades fills me with immense excitement!”

Farts and jackals—I hate to admit it, but this upcoming series is indeed signaling all the right things. Holland and Engelsman are likely already familiar to many readers, but if you’re less acquainted with Bourgeois and what he might bring to a car show, check out this video of him train-chasing he made nearly two years ago with Chris Harris. It was actually suggested by a commenter (thanks!) on my colleague Andrew’s earlier post about the Grand Tour reboot, and it’s a delightful watch featuring a Mercedes-AMG CLK DTM Cabriolet. A solid formula for success; we’ll see how the full-length project turns out.
