However, in this redesign of the wheel controls and media interface, a noticeable loss has occurred: the capability to skip tracks or radio presets using the wheel controls.

In simpler terms, the only method to move through media in this vehicle is either by pressing playback buttons on the infotainment display—which, at least in the standard home/map view, are really small—or by using voice commands. Throughout my eight years of reviewing cars professionally, I have never encountered a vehicle that lacked this function on the steering wheel.

I was shocked enough to think I was making a mistake until I looked through the manual (which was utterly useless), explored Reddit, and finally received confirmation from Mercedes themselves.

This was not always the case, of course. Two years prior, I reviewed a 2024 Mercedes E350, another technologically advanced sedan. In response, I’d say there’s no technical obstacle preventing Merc’s software from being updated to restore this feature to models that currently lack it via an over-the-air update. I sincerely hope the company takes this into account, as I truly don’t wish to see this trend continue.
