Rivian’s CEO RJ Scaringe has mentioned numerous times that he doesn’t think Americans are against EVs. Instead, he argues that there simply aren’t enough appealing options available in the EV market today. While I’m uncertain if that viewpoint is accurate, one fact is clear: the inquiries about when the Rivian R3X will launch seem to be endless, coming from petrol-driven non-EV enthusiasts of various backgrounds.
During an exclusive discussion in Park City, Utah on the latest episode of The Drivecast, when asked about the R3X’s release, Rivian’s Founder and CEO RJ Scaringe stated, “they’ll come,” which he followed up with “it’s a couple of years away.”
Tune in to the full discussion beginning at the point where Scaringe confirms that the R3X is indeed on its way, along with the timeline below.
Scaringe mentioned, “We have, well, Rivian has a very clear understanding of the timeline,” but added, “We just haven’t shared it yet.”
Comments across the internet from Threads and Bluesky to X and Reddit are filled with users expressing sentiments like, “I hope Rivian lasts long enough for the R3X to arrive.”
Whether Scaringe’s straightforward assurance that the R3X is en route is enough to ease those concerns remains to be seen. However, Scaringe reiterated, “But they’ll come. Yeah, they’re coming.”
It’s not a figment of your imagination that Rivian has yet to specify when the R3X will actually debut. Still, we have a solid indication and a spark of optimism as Scaringe remarked, “We just haven’t revealed the date. You know, it’s a couple of years away.”
A couple indicates two, which would sync perfectly with the Georgia factory gearing up to ramp up production for both the mass-market R2, currently launching, and the more budget-friendly R3.
Historically, unlike a plethora of car manufacturers, Rivian has managed to deliver every single product, albeit not all features, mostly on schedule, within budget, and as promised. An extraordinary and commendable achievement. And now we have a timeline projection for the R3X. Save the date.
