Seven Saab Prototypes from the Factory Set to Be Auctioned

Are you interested in possessing a quirky piece of automotive history? In just over a week, the last 7 Saabs left in the company’s prior Trollhättan, Sweden, manufacturing facility are going up for auction. This assorted collection of pre-production vehicles dates back to 2014, and despite the brand’s recent partial revival under the National Electric Vehicle Sweden (NEVS) banner, some still rely on conventional gasoline.

Actually, there are eight vehicles to be auctioned later this month, but only seven of these are Saabs. Three are 9-3s from 2014; these pre-production models would have acted as prototypes for the gasoline vehicles NEVS intended to market while transitioning to its new electric models.

Allegedly, the three leftover 2014 prototypes were meant for crash-testing, yet they were ultimately unnecessary.

Last Saab vehicles exit the factory – a historical moment

The other models are entirely electric. One is a pre-production model of the 2019 9-3 EV meant to be produced in China; another features all-wheel drive. NEVS also had a self-driving 9-3 prototype and one equipped with a range extender.

The last car in the auction is a Hengchi 5 crossover. Although the car was created and sold by Evergrande, this instance is strictly a prototype.

Curious? Well, what do you think about planning an impromptu trip to Sweden?

I’m partly joking. You don’t need to attend in person to take part in the May 21 auction, but registration for an account with Klaravik is necessary. If you’re based outside Sweden, this means registering as a business, as noted in the listing. Residents of Sweden can sign up as private individuals; no company required.
