2027 Chevrolet Corvette Grand Sport Unveils New V8 Motor

There’s a hybrid Corvette in the works and the anticipated electric Corvette is yet to appear, but Chevy is set to provide fans what they truly desire: a new V8 along with the comeback of the Grand Sport.

On Saturday during the 12 Hours of Sebring race in Florida, the 2027 Chevrolet Corvette Grand Sport made its debut on a parade lap alongside the four predecessors of the nameplate.

Chevrolet remains tight-lipped on the specifics, other than confirming the return of the nameplate for the 2027 model year, its existence, what it looks like (hint: the familiar blue paint with white stripe and red hashes is back), and that this model will showcase “the next generation of GM V8 technology.”

The only other official updates about the 2027 Corvette Grand Sport from Team Chevy state that it “caters to purists” and that it “will be a volume model.” No limited run here, folks. Sorry dealers, justifying markups and “market adjustments” will be challenging with this one.

The Grand Sport isn’t the only historic name to return with this C8 Corvette variant. Get ready for the comeback of the LS6.

Though GM is not disclosing critical details, we are quite confident that the “next-generation of GM V8 technology” refers to a new LS6 pushrod V8 featuring a cross-plane crank, combining direct and port injection, and boasting a displacement of 6.7 liters. This sixth-generation small block V8 will be naturally aspirated (there’s that purist angle) and is anticipated to generate around 530 to 550 horsepower. That marks a substantial enhancement from the 6.2-liter LT2 V8 in the current Stingray, which delivers 495 hp.

One certainty is that the Grand Sport and the entire Corvette range will not feature a manual transmission.

If we were speculating, which we certainly are not, the new LS6 may become the standard engine in the base Stingray, replacing the 6.2-liter LT2 V8. Following that, the LS6 could be introduced in the Grand Sport, combined with Z06 suspension components. Further expanding the lineup might be a speculated Grand Sport X, meant to substitute the E-Ray, as it seems there is confusion among consumers who may think the E-Ray is an electric Corvette rather than a hybrid. This electrified Corvette could pair the front electric motor with the new LS6 for over 700 hp and all-wheel drive.

This would mean the 2027 Corvette lineup will comprise a Stingray, Grand Sport, Grand Sport X, Z06, ZR1, and the flagship, the ZR1X. Of course, this is all just conjecture on our part. We’ll have to wait for Team Chevy to unveil the complete 2027 Corvette lineup. Anticipate that announcement soon with the Grand Sport making its grand reveal on the racetrack over the weekend.
