And not only does it look the part, but the Dispatcher 4×4’s conversion enhances its capabilities. The payload capacity peaks at 3,001 pounds (depending on the accessories added) compared to just 1,720 lbs for a factory Gladiator. Additionally, with the Dispatcher receiving the Gladiator’s upgraded 4.10:1 final drive ratio (alongside its Dana 44 front/rear axles), it retains a maximum towing capacity of 7,700 pounds.
The downside, if there is one, is that Acela promotes the Dispatcher solely with the Gladiator’s standard 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 and 8-speed automatic transmission. If you were looking for a diesel engine and a manual transmission, I regret to inform you that it isn’t available, but you can still opt for features such as a winch, bed rail kit, snow plow, dump bed, and various other options.
Acela asserts that the Dispatcher is constructed on a “modified” Gladiator frame (I’ve requested further details) and can be set up with either the standard bed or as a chassis cab for customization by the end-user. The company is marketing it as a more compact and agile alternative to factory half-ton pickups, and with that sizable bed and impressive payload capabilities, it seems to fit the requirements.
“The Dispatcher provides greater payload and better maneuverability compared to half-ton pickup trucks, all on a compact chassis and at a significantly more affordable price — even less than some worksite UTVs,” stated company president David Ronsen in Acela’s announcement. “It gives Acela a solid platform to support our customers’ essential missions.”
The Dispatcher will be available for sale starting in April. While there’s no listed price on the company’s website, I would anticipate it being more affordable than some of Acela’s more specialized offerings. I’ll update this post if I receive any further information.
