Taco, Meet Egg Roll.

Can you handle this? We’ve got egg roll filling (meat, cabbage, carrots, soy sauce, garlic, ginger) infused into a crispy little taco (flour tortilla, fresh toppings, gochujang sauce for dipping) that resembles a folded sandwich in terms of eating experience.

That’s a definite thumbs up from me.

My buddy Brandon has been raving about these for weeks. I see that the trend of stuffing meat into tortillas is really gaining traction online (smash burger tacos, chicken Caesar smash tacos, etc.), but the whole idea had always seemed a bit odd to me.

Until I gave these a go – and now I’m a fan.

Aside from being incredibly delicious (don’t miss out on the gochujang sauce; it’s absolutely amazing on these) – these are remarkably simple to prepare. I know some of the previous SOS recipes leaned a bit more towards “involved” than I typically prefer – there were additional elements I couldn’t part with. Shallot crispies, panko breading, house sauce, etc. So let’s consider this a BONUS SOS recipe. You can effortlessly whip this up in 20 minutes without breaking a sweat.

I hope you enjoy it! And a big thank you to Brandon for sharing this concept with me! YOU WERE SPOT ON!

Taco Egg Rolls

Toppings

Instructions

  1. Prepare Filling: Combine the ground meat, soy sauce, chili oil, garlic, ginger, and vegetables together. I simply use my hands to mix it all together.

  2. Apply Filling: Spread the mixture onto one side of the tortillas. I find it easiest to tackle all of them at once, before flipping the heat on.

  3. Fry Tacos: Heat a skillet on medium-high heat. Add the oil. Cook in batches, placing the tacos meat-side down, and fry for 3-4 minutes until browned. Flip to the other side for 1 minute to give the tortillas a bit of color, and then flip back to meat-side down to ensure they are cooked through. (165 degrees for chicken and turkey, 160 for ground pork.)

  4. Top and Enjoy: Add more fresh cabbage, cilantro or green onions, and your preferred sauces. Fold in half – it resembles a hybrid of a taco and sandwich, but tastes like an egg roll. I *adore* these with the gochujang sauce!

**Taco Egg Rolls: A Culinary Fusion by Brandon**

In the continuously changing landscape of cooking, fusion cuisine has emerged as a beloved trend, merging tastes and methods from various cultures to craft inventive and thrilling dishes. One remarkable creation that has captivated food lovers is the Taco Egg Roll, a delightful fusion dish conceived by Brandon, a devoted home chef with a knack for creativity.

**The Idea**

Taco Egg Rolls encompass the finest aspects of two cherished dishes: the classic Chinese egg roll and the iconic Mexican taco. This imaginative dish blends the crispy, savory charm of an egg roll with the lively, fresh flavors of a taco, producing an exceptional and delectable experience.

**Components**

To prepare Taco Egg Rolls, you’ll require the following components:

– Egg roll wrappers
– Ground meat (such as pork, chicken, or beef)
– Shredded cabbage
– Grated carrots
– Chopped green onions
– Soy sauce
– Garlic powder
– Ginger powder
– Salt and pepper
– Vegetable oil (for frying)
– Taco toppings (such as salsa, guacamole, sour cream, and shredded cheese)

**Instructions**

1. **Filling Preparation**: Start by preparing the filling. In a skillet, cook the ground meat over medium heat until browned. Incorporate shredded cabbage, grated carrots, and chopped green onions into the skillet. Season the mixture with soy sauce, garlic powder, ginger powder, salt, and pepper. Cook until the vegetables soften and the flavors meld seamlessly.

2. **Constructing the Taco Egg Rolls**: Lay an egg roll wrapper on a clean surface. Scoop a portion of the meat and vegetable mixture in the center. Fold the bottom corner over the filling, then tuck in the sides, and roll tightly. Secure the edges with a bit of water to keep them sealed while frying.

3. **Frying**: Heat vegetable oil in a deep pan or fryer. Once heated, carefully introduce the constructed egg rolls into the oil. Fry until they turn golden brown and crispy, flipping occasionally for even cooking. Remove from oil and drain on paper towels.

4. **Taco Assembly**: After the egg rolls have been fried and slightly cooled, slice them open lengthwise. Fill each egg roll with your preferred taco toppings, such as salsa, guacamole, sour cream, and shredded cheese.

**Serving Suggestions**

Taco Egg Rolls are best enjoyed right after preparation to relish the contrast between the crispy shell and the fresh toppings. They serve as an excellent starter for gatherings, a fun dinner option, or a unique addition to a fusion-themed meal.

**Conclusion**

Brandon’s Taco Egg Rolls are a testament to the limitless opportunities within fusion cuisine. By combining elements from diverse culinary traditions, this dish offers a novel and thrilling manner to savor familiar flavors.
