Ingredients Required
This simple Italian dressing recipe calls for just a few basic ingredients that you likely have at home in your pantry or refrigerator! Here’s what you’ll need:
- olive oil – I prefer a quality olive oil that doesn’t have to be pricey; just ensure it’s cold-pressed and organic for maximum flavor (in my view).
- white wine vinegar – adds a lovely tang and a bit of kick to the dressing. You can also substitute with apple cider vinegar or champagne vinegar.
- parmesan cheese – this is a must-have in the dressing, contributing significant depth of flavor; just make sure it’s grated parmesan.
- dijon mustard – adds a hint of tang and helps emulsify the dressing.
- honey – a single teaspoon is sufficient and truly enhances the balance of vinegar and savory flavors. You can also use maple syrup or another natural sweetener instead of honey.
- garlic – I prefer fresh garlic for my salad dressings; however, a 1/4 teaspoon of dried minced garlic or garlic powder works well if that’s what’s on hand.
- herbs – a mix of dried oregano, dried basil, and dried parsley; you can also include fresh herbs if desired.
- salt + pepper – necessary for seasoning the dressing and enhancing flavor.
Making Italian Dressing
I enjoy crafting homemade dressings and vinaigrettes because they are incredibly EASY and can be prepared in less than 5 minutes. Just whisk all the ingredients together in a bowl or jar, or blend them using a blender or NutriBullet until smooth. Store the dressing in a sealed airtight container in the fridge until needed. This Italian dressing can be kept in the fridge for up to 5 days, but it tastes best when it’s as fresh as possible.
I personally prefer to keep my dressings in mason jars because they have a secure seal, are convenient for on-the-go, and allow you to simply add all the ingredients and shake the jar well!
