Smoothies offer a fantastic method to consume a nutrient-rich meal! They are brimming with vitamins, minerals, fiber, and antioxidants. However, it’s important to note that not every smoothie is equal in quality.
It can be surprisingly easy for the sugar levels to soar to 50 grams in a single smoothie. This sugar might originate from whole foods like fruits or from added sweeteners. Consequently, this can lead to a spike in blood sugar levels, leaving many of us feeling less than optimal. This may result in energy crashes or unwanted hunger shortly after consumption.
Nutritious smoothie recipes include protein, carbohydrates (both starchy and non-starchy, such as greens), and healthy fats. To achieve this, you can utilize what I refer to as the Foundational Five.
A Nourish Meal based on the Foundational Five is any meal that encompasses all 5 elements of the Foundational Five model.
