It’s very easy for the sugar level to hit 50 grams in just one smoothie. This sugar can originate from whole foods, like fruits, or from added sugars. Consequently, this leads to spikes in blood sugar that can leave us feeling suboptimal overall. Whether it results in energy crashes or makes you feel hungry shortly after consumption.
Nutritious smoothie recipes are composed of protein, starchy carbohydrates, non-starchy carbohydrates (such as greens), and healthy fats. To achieve this, you can use what I term the Foundational Five.
A Foundational Five Nourish Meal is any meal that comprises all five components as per the Foundational Five formula.
